A metabolite of arginine that acts as a neuromodulator, binding imidazoline and NMDA receptors and influencing nitric-oxide synthase. It is used in pump, mood, and nootropic products, but nearly all supporting data come from animals; the human literature is limited to small trials and a long-term single-subject safety report. Its status as a lawful dietary ingredient in the US has been questioned, so sourcing and regulatory review are advisable.
