Lactobacillus gasseri
Also known as: L. gasseri, SBT2055, LG2055, CP2305, BNR17, Lactobacillus gasseri SBT2055
Lactobacillus gasseri is a human-origin lactic acid bacterium found in the gut and vaginal microbiota. It gained attention through a 12-week randomized trial of fermented milk containing strain SBT2055 that measured abdominal fat and body weight in adults with obese tendencies, and it is now positioned in weight-management and metabolic formulas as well as women's health blends. Freeze-dried powders at 1–10 billion CFU per serving are widely available. Evidence is strain-specific and most of it comes from Japanese and Korean trials, so results with other strains should not be assumed.
Research summary
Studied for effects on dietary fat absorption, adipose tissue signaling, and vaginal pH.
Dosage
Daily amounts, of compound. CFU shown in billions.
| Lowest studied | Typical range | Highest studied | Upper limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 B CFU | 1–10 B CFU | — | — |
Amounts are in billions of CFU (enter 5 for 5 billion). Raw-material weight assumes a 100 billion CFU/g concentrate (10 mg per billion CFU); manufacturers add a 20–50% CFU overage at fill so the label claim holds through shelf life, and the label should state whether CFU are guaranteed at manufacture or at expiry. The SBT2055 trial delivered the strain in 200 g of fermented milk daily, not a capsule, so capsule doses are extrapolated.
Standardization: Strain-designated freeze-dried culture; CFU per gram on CoA
Source material: freeze-dried culture
As supplied: Assumes 100 billion CFU/g concentrate (10 mg per billion CFU); adjust to supplier CoA.
