Magnesium Taurate

MineralLimited dose evidence

Also known as: magnesium ditaurate, Mg taurate, magnesium taurinate

Add to a formula

A complex of magnesium with the amino acid taurine, chosen for cardiovascular and calming formulas because both components are studied in relation to blood pressure and nervous-system excitability. It is gentle on the gut and carries about 8.9% elemental magnesium, so servings are large. Human data specific to this salt are limited to small recent trials; most of its dosing guidance comes from general magnesium research.

Research summary

Supplies magnesium for vascular smooth-muscle relaxation and enzyme function; taurine is an osmolyte and inhibitory neuromodulator that may complement magnesium's calming effects.

Doses are elemental magnesium. Magnesium ditaurate (Mg(C2H6NO3S)2, MW ≈ 272.5) is ≈ 8.9% Mg by stoichiometry — verify against the supplier's certificate of analysis. Evening dosing is common in calming formulas. Capped at the 350 mg supplemental UL.

Source material: synthetic (magnesium salt of taurine)

As supplied: ≈ 8.9% Mg; 1,500 mg compound ≈ 134 mg Mg

Format suitability

  • Capsule
  • Powder
  • Tablet
  • Softgel
  • Gummy
  • Liquid

Very bulky: 200 mg elemental ≈ 2,250 mg of compound, about four size-00 capsules. Powder is the practical format for full doses.

Formulation notes

Often paired with potassium citrate and CoQ10 in heart formulas. Separate from bisphosphonates and some antibiotics.
