Dried and milled beet root or beet juice, used in pre-workout, endurance, and heart-health powders as a whole-food source of dietary nitrate. Systematic reviews of beetroot juice supplementation in athletes report improvements in time to exhaustion and efficiency, with effects depending on the nitrate dose delivered. Nitrate content in powders varies widely with variety, processing, and storage, so a gram-based dose of powder does not guarantee a consistent nitrate dose unless the supplier specifies it.
