Electrolyte Blend (Generic)

A generic electrolyte blend is a placeholder for an unspecified mixture of sodium, potassium, and magnesium salts (sometimes with calcium and chloride) used in hydration and endurance powders. It exists so a formulator can rough in a hydration component before choosing individual salts. Because sodium is the electrolyte lost in the largest amounts in sweat and the one that most determines a hydration product's effect, blends that hide per-mineral amounts behind a total milligram figure are hard to evaluate. Formulators should replace this row with specific mineral rows at defined elemental amounts once the formula is set.

Dosed as total mg of mixed salts, which is why confidence is low: the figure says nothing about elemental sodium, potassium, or magnesium. The ACSM position stand recommends individualized fluid and electrolyte replacement based on sweat rate and notes that electrolyte-containing beverages can offer benefits over water in some circumstances. Specify each mineral separately (e.g. sodium chloride, potassium citrate, magnesium citrate) with elemental amounts, and keep the total sodium consistent with the intended use (light activity vs. heavy sweating).
