A water-soluble manganese salt of gluconic acid with about 11–12% elemental manganese, common in multivitamins and bone formulas as an inexpensive, mild-tasting source. NIH ODS lists it among standard supplemental forms with no comparative bioavailability data. Diets already supply several milligrams of manganese daily, so supplements usually add only a milligram or two, and the 11 mg adult UL is a meaningful ceiling for high-potency products.

Doses are milligrams of elemental manganese. Manganese gluconate anhydrous (C12H22MnO14, MW 445.2) is 12.3% Mn (54.94 ÷ 445.2) and the dihydrate (MW 481.3) is 11.4%; 0.116 is used as a commercial midpoint — verify against the supplier's certificate of analysis. Adult AI 1.8–2.3 mg; UL 11 mg. A highest studied supplemental dose was not located. Take with food.

Formulation notes

Iron, calcium, and phosphorus in the same serving can reduce manganese absorption, and manganese competes with iron for uptake. Keep formulas modest, since diet already supplies 2–5 mg/day and manganese accumulates in people with liver impairment.
