Bacillus coagulans

Bacillus coagulans is a spore-forming, lactic-acid-producing bacterium whose spores survive stomach acid, heat, and dry storage far better than vegetative Lactobacillus cells. That resilience makes it the go-to probiotic for gummies, baked goods, hot beverages, and shelf-stable powders. The strain GBI-30, 6086 has randomized trials in healthy adults for gastrointestinal function and in military trainees for muscle integrity and cytokine markers; strain MTCC 5856 has its own program. Typical doses are 1–2 billion spores daily. Spores germinate in the small intestine and are not permanent colonizers.

Raw-material weight assumes a 100 billion CFU/g concentrate (10 mg per billion CFU); spore concentrates are often lower potency (for example 15 billion/g), so adjust to the supplier CoA. Manufacturers still add a 20–50% overage for processing losses; state CFU at manufacture or at expiry on the label. Take with food.
