Curcumin Extract (95% Curcuminoids)
Also known as: curcumin C3 complex, turmeric extract 95%, curcuminoids, standardized turmeric extract
A concentrated turmeric rhizome extract standardized to 95% curcuminoids, the form used in most joint and inflammation research. A meta-analysis of randomized trials found that turmeric extracts delivering roughly 1,000 mg of curcumin per day supported joint comfort. Its main limitation is poor oral absorption, so formulas usually add piperine or a fat-based delivery, or switch to an enhanced-bioavailability branded form.
Research summary
Curcuminoids modulate inflammatory signaling, including NF-kB and COX-2 pathways, and act as antioxidants; systemic exposure from plain extract is low.
Dosage
Daily amounts, of extract.
| Lowest studied | Typical range | Highest studied | Upper limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| — | 500–1,500 mg | — | — |
500 to 1,500 mg per day, often split into two or three doses with fatty meals. Absorption without piperine or a lipid carrier is poor, so plain extract is usually paired with 5 to 20 mg piperine. Joint outcomes were measured after eight to twelve weeks in most trials.
Standardization: 95% curcuminoids
Source material: rhizome extract
